Hurricane Season 2025

As the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season approaches, forecasters are predicting above-average activity, emphasizing the importance of early preparation for residents in hurricane-prone areas.

🌪️ 2025 Hurricane Season Forecast

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) projects a 60% chance of an above-normal hurricane season this year. Their forecast includes:

13 to 19 named storms

6 to 10 hurricanes

3 to 5 major hurricanes (Category 3 or higher)

This marks the tenth consecutive year of above-average hurricane activity, driven by factors such as warmer Atlantic sea surface temperatures, ENSO-neutral conditions, weak wind shear, and an active West African monsoon .

📍 Regions at Elevated Risk

While hurricanes can impact any coastal area, certain regions are particularly vulnerable this season:

Gulf Coast: States like Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida’s Panhandle are at heightened risk due to their proximity to the warm Gulf waters.

Southeastern U.S.: Coastal areas from Florida to the Carolinas should remain vigilant.

Caribbean Islands: The Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and other northern Caribbean islands may experience increased storm activity.

Residents in these areas should stay informed and prepared throughout the season.

🧰 Essential Preparedness Tips

To ensure safety during the hurricane season:

Assemble an Emergency Kit: Include non-perishable food, water, medications, flashlights, batteries, and important documents.

Stay Informed: Monitor local news and weather updates regularly.

Develop an Evacuation Plan: Know your evacuation routes and have a plan in place.

Secure Your Property: Reinforce windows and doors, and remove outdoor items that could become projectiles.
